Have You Had A Week Like This?

Have you ever had a week or weeks from hell? Well, I had a week from hell recently and I want to tell you about it. In the end, I got myself out of the negativity and turned the week around. I want to share with you how I did that.

Let’s get started

Monday was an epic day as it was my monthly meeting with Maria, the CEO of Mompreneurs® It’s the time where we make sure the team is on the same page and we plan for the coming months. I drive about 1.5 hours to the meeting and getting there was fine, it was coming home that I feel started my week off bad. Let me explain.

When Maria and I departed ways I went onto my next meeting. Luckily it was down the street from where we met. While in the meeting Maria called me multiple times but I was unable to answer. I called Maria back only to find out that I left some things in her vehicle, important documents that I needed. I ended up driving 40 minutes in the opposite direction from home, to meet Maria and grab my items. Then, I turned around and made my way home.

I dislike traffic

Next, I hit a traffic jam. I was supposed to be home at 4:00 pm, but I didn’t arrive until 7:30 pm. This set my entire evening off in a spiral. I had a schedule to keep and now I was so far behind. And I wasn’t home in time to make supper for my family. I had no time for the tasks that I wanted to do. And to top it all off, I was exhausted. The exhaustion didn’t come from being on the road all day. It came from the overwhelm of not following my schedule and falling way behind. So, I went to bed!

Tuesday saw a whole new level of frustration. To start with, I looked at schedule for the day and realized that I still had unfinished tasks from Monday. I ended up redoing my daily plan, which threw off every.day.for.the.rest.of.the.week…OMG.

Then the bomb hit

From there I had a huge issue come across my desk, which made me cry. Have you ever completed a massive task, just to find out that there was missing information or items? Then you had to redo the task? Yep…this was me. I will say it was 100% completely my fault. I owned up to it and had to make a decision to move on with my day, which meant fixing the project.

By 10 am on Tuesday I wanted to give up and crawl into bed. I seriously felt like the lady in the photo below, all my thoughts and tasks spiralling out of control…

For the rest of the week, I did the best I could. I had to replan everything every morning, things on my lists did not get done and I was starting to doubt myself & my abilities. Have you been there? I am hoping someone is saying yes so that I know that I am not alone in this.

By the end of the week, this was me, less the blonde hair and glasses.

Yep…when Friday afternoon hit, I admit I was cheesed, tired, frustrated. I felt like I got ran over by a huge truck. I have not felt this way in years. That is when I made a decision. I decided to complete my month-end bookkeeping and financials. You are probably thinking ‘what?’ You heard that correctly. I made the decision to work on a task (that was not on my list) that would bring up my energy, make me feel accomplished and that would kick my mindset into the right direction.

It was time to turn this around

I then decided that I was not cooking, so we ordered pizza. Next up I decided to jump onto a webinar to educate myself on a new topic in business. At 9:30 pm I moved my laptop and myself to my bedroom. Then it hit… my adrenaline took over. I worked on tasks and projects until 2:36 am. It was magical and I was BACK BABY!

I want to share with you what I learned this week. In the hopes that you will learn from my mistakes & lessons because I don’t want you to go through what I just did.

Here is what I learned

  • Don’t fix it if it isn’t broke. Don’t plan your entire week beforehand. Focus on creating your daily schedule at the beginning of the day. (aka Sara, stick to the plan)
  • When down, work on something that picks you up & makes you feel accomplished. For you, it may not be processing your month-end, but find that task that makes you feel like you conquered the world.
  • It’s okay to order takeout. I was going for a ‘Sara record’ and not eat out for the entire week. So when I ordered pizza I could feel myself slipping into the ‘bad mom’ thoughts. I cancelled those thoughts right away and patted myself on the back for simply feeding my family.
  • Don’t be so hard on yourself. Realize that things happen, you will make errors and you will need to take responsibility for your actions, knowing that in doing so it will make you a stronger & more knowledgeable person. It is a scary thing to do, but once done you will feel like a million dollars.
  • Become Dory and just keep swimming. You need to fully understand that staying in a mental rut will ruin your day, week, month, year and possibly your life. You need to snap out of this state, just keep going. You’ve got this!

Life is what you make it

I want you to realize that just like what Hannah Montana says ‘life is what you make it’, you need to take control of your downfalls, your crappy schedules, your mood swings and journey back into the positive mindset that will help you to continue on your amazing journey.
